They can't stop it now. Beck was whining about this Friday. It's a done deal. The exact final form is not done, but passing it is generally a certainty now.

You could also say the same thing about agoraphobics, fat people who sit inside all day and if you install a laptop, it could be an excuse for gamers to actually get outside once in a while..

I agree completely. I wish I could use my 3.25" Tie Fighter and X-Wing install discs. I'm sure you can find somewhere online where it's emulated but I haven't looked too hard. Edit: Well if I had the discs, but you get the point.

This might make me a horrible person but I say ban him otherwise it will be a slippery slope to full on robot legs in order to compete, and then robot lungs, heart and god knows what else. When will it stop?

Microsoft exists because they were able to force a crappy standard, Windows, on all of us. Then, they were able to use that leverage to force Office on all of us via the .doc and .xls formats. It's the only way they know how to do business: with a locked-in audience forced to use their products. The future will not be kind to Microsoft.

I think what you're referring to is a limitation of the seven-layer OSI reference model. The verbage used in explaining these outages is most likely referring to a VLAN database issue in a network switch (Cisco, most likely), which the application has no clue about. I think Cisco's working on technologies which are more "application-aware," but that's only one side of the coin - are application developers working on apps that are "network-aware"? And if so, what sort of network security and processor-usage headaches would that cause? |
