Vampires used to be cool until Stephanie Meyer castrated the vampire genre entirely.I am pretty sure that Twilight only got popular because college age girls with low literacy levels could brag about reading a "chapter book". All the time I hear them saying how they read a 600 page (16pt font, triple spaced) book in a day and half.

Adding "/s" would have taken a little but significant bit out of the hurt I was hoping to inflict with my modest exposition on just how much interdweeb non-persons are completely irrelevant to the Real World where Big Money rules supreme.
The first ~4 years of MTV were the best. I still remember seeing MTV for the first time on its debut date when they showed The Buggles "Video Killed the Radio Star". It was true then at least. During those first few years it was all about the music. Mostly videos on at any hour and on Saturday's there was the Top 20 Video Countdown. The original VJs were awesome...I miss Martha Quinn and Alan Hunter. Later it started to change. Friday Night Video Fights, Club MTV, Dial MTV, Remote Control (RIP, Ken Ober), The Julie Brown Show, the John Stewart Show, MTV Closet Classics, MTV News (why is Kurt Loder still doing anything?), Yo MTV Raps, Head Bangers Ball and 120 Minutes came around and less videos were airing. Then it went further down hill with additions like Kennedy, Adam Curry, Randy of the Redwoods and of course Road Rules/Real World. 1987 was my cutoff year for great MTV. The 1990s weren't that bad since they still showed some videos and Beavis and Butthead were awesome, but the 2000s really blow. I wish we could just get it off the air and free up that band space for something less crappy, like 24 hour a day informercials. I may be old by Digg standards, but at least I got to experience it when it actually meant something. Nickelodeon too. MTV and Nick were a huge part of my childhood and teen years and I'm glad to have had the very best incarnation of both. Sad to see them both go to *****.

The default layouts suck. The default layouts with configurations suck. While I'm no fan of iTunes, it's got great layout and functionality for the playlist itself. WMPs isn't bad. I personally use MediaMonkey, but the start up has gotten a bit slow with the recent version.Foobar COULD be such a great player, but there's just so many little gripes that every media/music player has had in the past 10 years or more:Why is there no Play/Pause combination button? Why are the buttons so ugly? and forced to stay on the top of the player window? And why can't they be locked into place? Why can't Foobar have the playlist jump/scroll/whatever to the current playing song? Why can't Foobar play randomly? There's a random button, which plays a random song, but then it's back to standard sequential playing..
What if these "star war scientists" discover a cheap, safe, inexhaustible source of power while researching the basic nature of the universe? Wouldn't that solve not only the lack of clean water for everyone, but many other problems as well? Of course it would. Basic research is necessary because it is the root for solving all of our problems in the material world. And it might lead to solving many of the problems that are not material. For instance, many wars occur because of a lack of food, water, or energy. Or the fear of losing them.!

amazing...And yet our kids have no idea what other kids are getting when they throw a tantrum about not getting a certain toy.I think this is one the reasons that I am able to maintain a positive outlook on life. I know that no matter how bad it gets, I'm still better off than millions of other people in the world. I mean seriously, where else in the world can you feed yourself for a week off 1 hour of work.1 hour at 10$/ hour ---> 10$ ---> 9 double cheese burgers at BK ---> easily fed for a week. These people work 15 hours days just to feed their families....

He WAS good, along with every Simpsons character, but I'm gonna be that guy who says that The Simpsons are bloody awful now. They butchered it hard. The jokes now appeal to the every-day buffoon. It used to be such a clever show, but it dumbed itself down. That's also why Arrested Development never survived. You have to be "king of queens" to survive in the TV world.

One time at work we had to call in some people from the IT team to set up the rights on one of the computers, and he was like "oh nice what what programming language are you working in" C and C++. "Oh that's serious stuff I just learned the MySQL programming language that test was tough". Whole room silently facepalms...
