Reverse blasting while looking through the rearview is awesome
"That is complete ***** amelnik, people pirate because they want it for free, because there is this whole new attitude with the internet. Why pay for something I can get free." - provably wrong. MAIN source of piracy and related industry losses are those selling stolen content - not free sharing ! (Check many studies published on this issue - typically reporting 90+ % of pirating by reproducing and selling stolen content, mostly in industrial fashion - not by individuals). Yet, industry focuses on small fraction of the problem only. Why? Because protection from piracy is not what they are after. They are after control of the customer. That's why they need to do these "deals" in secret, because goal is not to protect themselves but hoodwink the public.Hence, great support for non-DRM digital watermarking and prosecuting those who give up copyrighted content for free or selling it vs. DRM where the customers is presumed guilty by the very act of purchase of said content. Even "non-PC nerds" see this for what it is, illegal usurpation of consumer rights, protection of which dates way back before any Internet. We'll know that customer-controlling arm of this industry is broken when they give up on DRM as a concept and start tracking who is actually giving/selling their content without rights to do so.

Steve Kroft from 60 minutes recently aired a segment on cyberattacks on corporate and government infrastructure. The government is sounding the trumpets and putting out stories about how vulnerable the world is to cyberattacks. In some sense, it is very true. And just guessing here, but China's cyber-capabilities are probably more advanced than our cyber-capability. |

And this boys and girls is why intellectual property rights are important. Allowing talented individuals to earn a living off their craft benefits society by providing us with art that might have never seen the light of day. Allowing people to take what they want at will serves no one but the people doing the taking. Digg me down all you want but you know it's true. |
